Shooter's Appreciation Day, March 2008 and
The Wedding of Sweet Ivory Bob & Lady Bird

Well the first shooter’s appreciation weekend is complete with only a few minor missteps.  All in all the feed back that has been received has been good.  All of the stages were really good and I think everyone had a great time.  I apparently received a new alias this past weekend: “The Spencer Kid”.  Where they got the kid part I don’t know.

The weather was cold on Saturday morning with some dusting of snow on the ground but we had 19 brave shooters that started shooting.  Some of the weaker shooters fell by the wayside but I won’t mention that they were, the hell I won’t: Adam Little Bird, Marshall Harb, O’Rastus, and BB.  The weather improved greatly by the time we reached stage 3 but then when you have 19 shooters on one posse things seem to go slow anyway.  Everyone had plenty of time to visit and connive during the shooting.  We finally finished shooting on what must have seemed like Sunday but it was still Saturday to a certain couple’s joy.

At 4:30 on Saturday afternoon in the church I think we must have had the shortest wedding in history: 4 min. 47 sec.  Sweet Ivory Bob and the lovely Lady Bird said their vows to a packed house with standing room only.  The Preacher, Shawn, Bob’s long time friend, was more nervous than the Bride and Groom.  This had to be one of the most wonderful weddings I have ever attended.  The Bride was dresses in a period correct frock that she made herself.  It was turquoise flower pattern with a beautiful bouquet of daisy’s.  The Groom was dressed in and town suit entirely made by the Bride.  I think she got the pattern from Omar the Tent Maker.  The suit fit the large framed Sweet Ivory Bob perfectly and Lady Bird is to be commended on her sewing prowess.

In less than 5 min. we were into the food and beer.  The dinner consisted of bar-b-que butts, smoked chicken quarters, potato salad, baked beans, beer, wine, water, & some of the most delicious desserts on the planet.

If you did not attend this shindig you have missed out on a once in a lifetime event.  The happy Bride and Groom, after the wedding, did what all married couples do.  Sweet Ivory Bob played cards and Lady Bird cleaned up after the sloppy masses.  She did have a lot of help from Double Knot, Sweet Scarlet and Suzanne Hurst.

On Sunday morning we shot again and had another wonderful day on the range.  We had 32 shooters on Sunday with a cold morning to start but it warmed in a hurry.  By the end of the shoot cowboys and cowgirls were shedding some of their layers of clothing. Again the stages were good and required only minor modifications on the spur of the moment.

We gave trophies for Sunday but everyone was gone on Saturday so we did not print trophies for Saturday.  To see the scores please check elsewhere on the web site.  If you won a category and wish to have a trophy please contact RC Moon and one will be printed and held for you to collect at the April shoot.

We also gave trophies for The Magnificent Seven presented to the top seven shooters that shot both days of our Shooter’s Appreciation Weekend.

I certainly hope that everyone had as much fun as I did.  If you did let the Board know so we will know whether there should be a Second Annual Shooter’s Appreciation Weekend.

Hope everyone had a safe trip home and kept an eye on their back trail.
